The Modfather: Paul Weller at The Forum

Written by on 21 December 2021

The Return of Paul Weller to Bath saw the Modfather bring a set longer than two hours to the Forum. The former The Jam and The Style Council frontman performed songs from across his illustrious career. Songs like Shout to the Top and A Town Called Malice were met with big cheers and middle-aged mosh pits.

Touring on the back of his latest two solo albums Fat Pop (which entered the UK Charts at n°1) and On Sunset, he certainly did not disappoint live and once again proved himself to be a legendary figure within the music industry. Simply, one of the best British lyricists and musicians of all-time.

Suited and booted, Weller performed to an audience of all ages. Through his work both past and present, he showed how he has successfully managed to transcend different generations and connect all age groups with a common love of his music. Weller’s lockdown project, Fat Pop, became the Modfather’s 6th number one studio album. It sees the punk-icon delve into his career spanning nearly 50 years but also bring in help from his daughter Leah who co-wrote and sang on Shades of Blue.

Fat Pop sees Weller bring his album experimentation to new heights, describing his album as ‘a collection of singles’, with each song having its own distinct sound, ranging from jazz to soul, post-punk, and rock. Life-long Weller fans were in no doubt impressed with his latest album and these recent live performances are some of his best ever.
